With the home team trailing by one run, freshman right fielder Taylor Richter came up to bat.

Her level of clutch was off the charts as she smashed a hit down the left-field line with runners in scoring position to help the Warriors capture the lead and eventually the game.

El Camino Softball improves to 14-9 overall on the season and 6-3 in the South Coast Conference with an 11-7 victory over the Los Angeles Harbor College Seahawks (6-14) on Tuesday.

“The team brought their bats today, so that helped us make up the deficit from the first inning,” Warriors assistant coach Kaitlyn Hooper said. “Defensively we could have been a little bit stronger, but otherwise we hit the ball well today.”

Freshman pitcher Natalie Francis struggled early On the mound, allowing five hits and four runs in the first inning before being replaced by freshman Brooke Sarro. Sarro threw three strong innings, allowing seven hits and two runs with four strikeouts, improving her record to 5-1 on the season.

“My defense really helped me out, they were my support out there today,” Sarro said. “We played well on (offense) and adjusted to their pitches. It was an overall good game for us.”

After allowing four runs in the first inning, the Warriors answered back scoring eight runs through three innings to help gain control of the game.

Freshman Vanessa Gutierrez, shortstop, was dominant at the plate for the Warriors with three hits in three at-bats, including a two-RBI double.

Freshmen first baseman Kammy Fisher and freshman pitcher Haley Reed along with Richter all produced on offense with two hits each for the home team.

“I think I performed good (enough) and was more focused today,” Richter said. “(Brooke) did an amazing job today striking out batters and getting them to swing at the pitches she wanted them to hit, and the team brought our bats on offense.”

The Warriors will host conference opponent, East Los Angeles College (6-14), on Thursday at 3 p.m.
