Free haircuts and a place to hold conversations.
The Men of Color Action Network is offering these and more as it hosts the third and final “Barbershop Talks” event of the semester on Wednesday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Equity and Achievement Center.
The event is for people to receive communal support and have the opportunity to talk about their lives openly in a safe familiar space.
Five barbers will be at the event. There will be free food. Video games for attendees to play together will be available.
The counselors of the Men of Color Action Network help students with class registration, resume workshops, and help in employment. They have held previous barbershop events this semester including in March and April.
“The goal of the barbershop talks is for men of color to be able to have a safe space to talk about taboo topics, to network and have fun all while getting a haircut,” Curtis Nash, event coordinator, said.
The first 30 students to RSVP for the event will get free haircuts.
