The audience wasn’t making much noise, and not many fans could be seen in the crowd.
20 people max showed up before tonight’s men’s volleyball game began, and the reason was obvious.
The visiting L.A. Trade Tech College Beavers are 0-5 and aren’t good.
“It should be an easy win,” freshman libero Eric Veliz said earlier in the day.
Only one starter made an appearance in today’s 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-16) sweep against the Beavers, as the El Camino men’s volleyball team improved to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the Western State Conference.
Freshman setter Pedro Campos was only seen in the game due to the fourth setter, sophomore Nick Jimenez, being “a liability” in the front row, head coach Dick Blount said.
“Got some (new players) in today,” Blount said. “I’m happy, it was pretty fun to watch them play, (but) there’s a reason they don’t start and you saw that.”
Jimenez used his opportunity in the game to the best of his ability.
“It felt good, (because) it’s been a while since I’ve played,” he said. “We did bad in the off-season, but now we’ve come together, we work together and we understand how to fix things.”
Freshman outside hitter Eric Jenson is one of the players that doesn’t get much playing time, but played today in all three sets and thinks the team can fix things as well.
“I think it was good to have other guys (play),” Jenson said. “I think, personally, I didn’t play as well as I’d liked to, but having the opportunity to go out and play was great. I think we can reduce errors and play a little cleaner.”
The Warriors will go on the road and play the Long Beach City College Vikings on Friday at 6 p.m.
“We have some work to do, but we’re getting better and better each night,” Blount said.
