Cerritos College rallied from 21-point deficit to defeat El Camino 40-38, on Saturday at Falcon Stadium.
The Warriors led 38-21 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter when Falcons running back Robert Gordon burst up the middle for a 23-yard touchdown, cutting the lead, 38-28.
Cerritos capped a 6-play 67 yard drive with a Gordon two-yard touchdown run. The Warriors’ offense stalled on the next series as Falcons’ quarterback Jimmy Walker hit De’Jai Whitaker for a 17-yard touchdown, giving Cerritos a 40-38 lead.
EC freshman quarterback Brent Boehm got the start and passed for 397 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted twice. The Warriors had one final shot at a comeback with three minutes left in the game, but Boehm was sacked three times on the final drive, giving Cerritos the victory.
“Our kids played very well tonight,” head coach John Featherstone said. “I felt we were gonna win this game but we don’t know how to finish a game yet. We need to learn how to finish.”
EC has an upcoming bye week and will be back in action Oct. 24 at Los Angeles Harbor College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
