In 2015, the Warriors softball team enjoyed a historical season as it finished 34-12 and claimed its second South Coast Conference championship in school history and first since 1989.
El Camino went 17-4 in league play and advanced to the Southern California Super Regional final before falling to eventual state champions Palomar College, 6-1.
First-year coach, Jessica Rapoza was named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year and her staff was named Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Warriors will start the 2016 season with a new program as 16 freshman and one sophomore take the field in the Spring.
“I think everyone on the team is going to play a vital role for us and since they are all new, it’s hard to say who will stand out,” Rapoza said. “I feel the team took tremendous strides this fall in learning our system and we have seen a vast improvement from the beginning.”
El Camino must replace SCC Pitcher of the Year Reina Trejo, who finished the season 9-2 with a 3.03 ERA and 34 strikeouts while shortstop Tori Garcia was selected to the SCC first team for the second straight year. Garcia led the league with 40 stolen bases and hit .465 with eight doubles.
“I feel the team chemistry has been great because they were all new together and were able to learn concepts together for the first time,” Rapoza said. “Our job as a coaching staff is to prepare them in every way we can.”
