The softball team’s 5-0 winning streak came to end when they lost to Cypress College on Wednesday.
EC lost 3-2 at the end of seven innings. The game was close and the Warriors battled back but they couldn’t get the lead.
At the top of the first inning sophomore shortstop Tori Garcia was walked and sophomore outfielder, Kristen Romero, was hit by the ball advancing her to first base and Garcia to second. At the bottom of the first inning both teams were scoreless.
Cypress grabbed the lead early scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. At the top of the third an RBI by sophomore outfielder, Reina Trejo, allowed Garcia to score the Warriors’ first run. Cypress scored another run at the bottom of the third.
At the top of the fourth the Warriors were trailing 3-1. A hit by sophomore Kathy Orozco allowed freshman third baseman, Jacqueline Gonzalez, who was on second to score.
Trailing by one, the Warriors were determined to take the lead. For the next three innings the Warriors and Cypress College battled back and forth but the Warriors couldn’t claim the win.
The Warriors’ next game is a doubleheader at Grossmont College on Friday, Feb. 6 at 12:00p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
