Funding for six items was approved and the implementation of annual class scheduling was discussed during the Associated Students Organization Senate meeting on Thursday, March 6.
The funding, totaling $11,293.65, for the ASO General Election, student events, and a conference passed the first phase of approval during the ASO Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 4.
During the Senate meeting, chaired by Isaac Alpert, the vice president of ASO, $1,500 in funding was approved “to carry out the annual ASO General Election,” according to the Finance and Senate agendas.
Additionally, a $500 increase to a blanket purchase order with the El Camino College Print Center was approved to cover the election-related supplies. The election will take place April 28 through May 1 via Engage.
Koryn Dixon, ASO senator of Humanities, requested $150 for food and supplies to support student engagement during office hours. Her request for funding was approved.

Cynthia Mosqueda, First Year Experience counselor, attended the meeting to discuss funding for the annual FYE Grad Cap Decorating event on Thursday, May 29, in which food and decorating supplies are provided to students who RSVP.
In the Finance meeting, chaired by Mia Wroe, the ASO director of Finance, Mosqueda and fellow FYE counselor Seranda Bray Sylvers introduced the item to the committee.
“We provide the space and materials for all graduating students to decorate their caps,” Sylvers said. “Last year, we had 225 students, so our hope is to try and grow that number.”
The request for $2,184.93 had previously been allocated and was approved.
“Just to clarify, there’s no additional money being allocated,” Danielle Kabboul, the president of ASO, said.
Six ASO members, who have yet to be chosen, will attend the Student Senate for California Community Colleges 2025 General Assembly at the Westin Los Angeles Airport on April 4-7.
A $2,958.72 transfer between accounts was approved to fund expenses for the conference.
“This is to anticipate the cost, which is $475 [per regular student registration], for a delegation of six plus one student delegate voter.” Ricky Gonzalez, director of Student Development, said.
The conference covers the cost of the student delegate voter. In addition to the funds transfer, $4,000 was approved for General Assembly expenses.
Annualized enrollment
Crystle Martin, dean of Library and Learning Resources, and Jeff Stephenson, vice president of Student Services, presented on annualized scheduling and enrollment to combat registration fraud.
“So what we’re working on is developing a schedule for an entire year,” Martin said. “We’ll be the first college in this region to be doing [annualized enrollment] on this scale.”
The annual scheduling and enrollment will “allow students to enroll and reserve seats for the whole year.” Summer and fall schedules will be available in mid-April, while winter and spring 2026 schedules will be available in mid-June.

Stephenson also commented on fraudulent student applications and enrollment.
“[Our system] is catching about 90% of fraudulent applications on the front end and about 70% of enrollments,” Stephenson said. “The only way we could stop [enrollment fraud] is to make everyone verify their identity.”
The ASO Finance Committee meets Tuesdays at noon in the Communications Building, Room 109. The ASO Senate meets Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the Student Services Building, Room 141.
