Lot C will no longer be on schedule to finish at the end of this year and will be completed by May 2017, executive director of the El Camino Federation of Teachers said.
Nina Velasquez, executive director of the ECFT, said that she was informed at the Parking and Traffic Committee meeting that the new parking structure is receiving a delay due to problems with the fire and sprinkler system.
The new lot, which was supposed to be completed by the end of this year, has been under fire from members of the community living at El Camino Village, due to concerns of their privacy and the size of Lot C.
In the Oct. 6 special board of trustees meeting, it was said that the college district is being sued to stop construction in general, and despite the board’s most recent meeting, no new information on the lawsuit has been made public.
Velasquez added that she is also trying to find a solution to help students find parking in the meantime because “we are at maximum capacity with no extra parking at all.”
