The Associated Student Organization (ASO) approved the removal of a council member and discussed a possible change to the organization’s constitution at Thursday’s meeting.
The ASO announced the removal of the Division Council Member of Business, Ali Awadallah, due to a lack of contact with the other members.
“(Awadallah) has failed to keep in contact with us for months now, has failed to keep in contact with the senators and in general has not followed the guidelines he should have,” Vice President of the ASO, Stephanie Pedrahita said.
In addition, the ASO appointed three new division council members for the Business Division and one new member for the Mathematics Division.
Vrej Hamayan, Milan Sharma and Aaisha Karim are the newest Division Council Members of Business and Sean Lamb has been appointed as the Division Council Member of Mathematics.
Among the financial items talked about during the meeting, the item that had the biggest reaction from the members was the discussion of allocating $350 to buy pins to represent the organization at various events and conferences.
Jared Thilenius, senator of mathematical sciences, was one of the members opposed to the proposition.
“I didn’t want to allocate the amount of money that they presented to us,” Thilenius said. “I felt like it was a little too much. I do think that the pins are important, but maybe a smaller amount would be more acceptable.”
According to the meeting’s agenda, the ASO was planning on voting on an amendment to their constitution in which members of the executive cabinet “must maintain a minimum of six units at El Camino College,” but the discussion was tabled for another time due to the absence of Eman Dalili, the student trustee.
The next ASO meeting will take place Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. in the Administration Building.
