The women’s badminton team proved to be poised for a breakout year in their March 23 win against Compton College.
“I am really proud of the progress the team is making. The ladies have come very far in a short amount of time,”Jaymie Baquero, coach, said.
Pasadena defeated the Warriors, 15-6. However, the Warriors regrouped and were dominating in a 21-0 win against Compton last Friday.
“This team is very conditioned and athletic and we have a lot of heart,” Corinne Belandres said, “You can see it with all these girls, and they want to improve.”
Belandres, who has been playing badminton since the fourth grade is the No. 1 ranked player for EC.
“I was confident. It’s about your determination and your drive you have,” Belandres said
“My team goal is that we keep working and be better than last year,” Callie Rodela.
“We’re only going to get better,” Hornbeck said “We’re improving everyday and we’re having fun doing it.”
The team goes on the road to play Pasadena City College on Friday.
“We can surprise some teams and it shows in the number of wins we have,” Belandres, said, “Other schools better get ready because they don’t know what’s coming.”
