The rapist of an El Camino international student has been sentenced to 28 years in state prison, according to the Daily Breeze.
Shaquille DeAnthony Barber, 22, pleaded guilty to three felonies: forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and residential burglary.
In the spring 2015 semester, Chemistry teacher Pete Doucette told The Union that the victim of a reported rape near his home was an international student attending El Camino.
The victim woke up and found Barber in her home and after raping the victim he left on foot, while Barber was not caught initially, he was matched to DNA evidence he left at the scene, according to the Daily Breeze.
Some international students from around campus gave their input during the time of the incident and Mariko Tada said, “I cannot walk alone down Crenshaw Boulevard.”
In the end, Barber must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and must be registered as a sex offender upon release, according to the Daily Breeze article.
