The victim in last week’s alleged rape near campus was awakened by noises in a home around 9:30 a.m. April 10, Gardena police Lt. Steve Prendergast said today.

When she walked out of her room, she discovered a man there, who police say entered through an unlocked door.

The man raped her, then left on foot in an unknown direction, Prendergast said.

An El Camino faculty member who lives in the area said he noticed police cars and a taped off home in his neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. that day.

The man, Prendergast said, is described as black, 20 to 25 years old and is about 190 pounds with a muscular build. He was wearing a black hoodie.

Prendergast said Gardena police are looking to those living in the area of 156th Street and Atkinson Avenue with surveillance cameras to contact them. Anybody with information about the incident should contact Detective Mike Ross at 310-217-9635.
