The newly elected captain Josh Legardy looked to make swift work of his opponent from Mt. San Antonio College In the last mach of the singles competition.
Legardy was focused on a comeback as his fellow teammates struggled after losing the first set match by two 6-4 scorelines. It was not to be though and he was outmatched 6-0 giving all the single wins to Mt. San Antonio.
The EC men’s tennis team faced the Mounties for the first time in conference play this season. With the men’s tennis team still searching for their second win of the season, conference play was a way to get a clean slate with a win here today.
Assistant coach Yasuto Mayawaki said, “even though we are still inexperienced i believe we can still win.”
The only win for EC men tennis happen to be in the doubles round with the team of Josh Legardy and Mark Dalton from EC and the team of Erik Martinez and Kenny Simmons from Mt. San Antonio with a score of 8-5.
“I am still not worried about the record,” said assistant coach Mayawaki.
The Warriors are now 1-5 in non-conference play and 0-1 in conference play. Their overall record is now 1-6 and are on a five-game losing streak.
Next up for the men’s tennis team is a 2 p.m. match on Feb. 26 at Cerritos.
