The women’s basketball team fell in an early hole with 14 first-half turnovers due to Cypress College’s pressure in Friday’s 81-62 loss, El Camino now sits at 2-2 on the season.
Cypress College are winners of three straight games and are 4-1 to start the season.
“Our biggest issue was Cypress’ pace,” coach Steve Shaw said. “They did what they wanted longer than we did. They like to press and run and we did not do a good job handling it.”
Despite the loss, the Warriors out-rebounded Cypress 41-30 and the team shot 82 percent (14-17) from the free-throw line, Shaw added.
The leading scorer for the Warriors was freshman forward Elise Allison, who scored 15 points and collected eight rebounds.
The Warriors’ next game is at home Tuesday night against West L.A. College at 5 p.m. Shaw wants to see improvements on both sides of the court.
“We need to have better half-court offense, and better defense when stopping offensive penetration.” Shaw said. “We need to focus on us, and try to get better in all aspects every night.”
