Warriors pass first test of the season
The El Camino’s Men’s Volleyball team started off on the right foot as they beat Grossmont in four sets (3-1). Friday night offered the first preseason game for the men’s volleyball team.
Not only was there a great turnout for the first game, but there was also a great display for a promising team. All the hard work the team has put into practice seems to be paying off.
On Friday night the El Camino team showed true determination to win. Even after falling short by two points in the first set (23-25), the team never gave up and comfortably won 3 sets in a row.
After losing the first set the team came in the second set with a resilient attitude, crushing the opponent 25-13; In the third set Grossmont did not want to leave without a fight and only lost by 25-21; and in the final set the El Camino team called it a night by beating Grossmont 25-20, giving them their first win in 2014 pre-season.
With an overall great performance of a number of players such as Brandon Hiehle, Casey Wood and Karl Acres, Roy Powell in particular showed leadership and a will to help his team to win.
Roy was happy to see how his teammates “came together as team”, and with “great unity” redeemed themselves after losing the first set. Roy admits that this season they have to “keep working hard”, and who better to agree with him than Head Coach Richard Blount, who admits that this season his hopes is to be “State Champions.”
The coach of the El Camino’s Men’s Volleyball team feels that there are still “things to fix”, especially since Wednesday they “play the number one team in the state (Golden West).” Coach Richard Blount admitted, “We lost to them in 5 last year, we should’ve beat them in 4.”
The El Camino squad will look to defeat the team who eliminated them in the Quarterfinals last season; however, with a great performance displayed, the Warriors look well prepared ahead of Wednesday’s match.
Without a doubt, this Wednesday night promises to offer a great game between two teams who know each other very well.
