El Camino College’s campus was visited by several middle-school students from Will Rogers Middle School, on Feb. 20.
They were escorted around campus by ASO President Rafeed, who was the student ambassador and showed them around.
One area where the students were really interested in was the Newsroom, as well as the Humanities Division that runs it. Newspaper adviser, Kate McLaughlin, and Associate Dean, Elise Geraghty, gave insight on what their jobs entitle.
The students were all for it, and were even able to interview the news adviser herself. They had a somewhat scripted interview, in which they took turns asking questions and learning about how to properly interview.
The middle-school students received some basic journalism essentials, such as a copy of the newspaper, a notebook and a pencil. They left after being able to take a photo with McLaughlin.
