With the first week of spring semester upon us, students are preparing for the expected delays in finding parking.
“I’ve been coming to El Camino since 2010 and it’s the same story every year,” Robert Hernandez, 25, political science major, said. “The parking lots get packed from everyone trying to add classes and from people trying to join a class on the first day. It’s a real mess.”
Along with the increased student traffic in some parking lots, some normal driving areas have been turned into parking areas.
“In Lot F they are having students park in spots that are usually drive areas,” Hernandez said. “It’s just a really big mess and it adds a ton of time to what’s normally a fast and easy process after the first couple weeks of class.”
Lot F has also had it’s share of things going whereas the west side of the top floor has been blocked off with cones.
“The area is undergoing repairs and is closed for now,” Teresa Coulter, administrative assistant II of facilities planning and services, said.
Some students have decided against forking out two dollars to get a daily parking pass and found other areas to park.
“I usually try to find parking on the streets next to the campus,” Sam Uribe,18, auto tech major, said. “It’s my second semester here and it always helps me get to class faster and save money.”
Some students have decided to save their time and try to take as many early classes as possible.
“For me, parking isn’t an issue,” Scotty Dayen, 22, business major, said. “I take early classes so when I get here for my first class there’s always plenty of parking to choose from.”
