The El Camino track team went to the Southern California Championship with the intention of going to state and they didn’t disappoint.
The men’s team finished an overall fourth and the women’s finished seventh, according to an email from coach Dean Lofgren.
Sophomore Chris Rasmussen is a champion in the men’s high jump and the 4×400-meter team is also SoCal champ.
Sophomore Teddy Kassa is having a historic season as he placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase and won the 5000-meter run. Meanwhile, sophomore Chris Graham placed fifth in the men’s 110-meter hurdles.
In women’s events, sophomore Haley Heinemann placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Freshman Zaynab Bent-Mikail placed third in women’s triple jump and freshman Sara Curran placed third in women’s pole vault.
Freshman Xiomara Perkins placed fourth in the women’s 400-meter dash, while sophomore Cambria Serrano placed sixth in javelin throw.
Overall EC has eight men qualifying in nine events and has nine women qualifying in six events in the State Championship on May 15 and May 16 at San Mateo College.
