El Camino freshman goalie, Nicholas Elias, slams the ball as he is blocking and guarding the goal post, preventing the opposing team from scoring.
Despite Elias’ attempts to block the ball, El Camino men’s water polo team fell to Mt. San Antonio College, 24-6 on Wedneday.
“Mt. Sac is one of the better teams in the conference and in Southern California,” El Camino coach Corey Stanbury said, “Although EC is still one of the top eight teams in Southern California.”
Stanbury said the two main areas of improvement for the team are gaining speed and finding a way to set up the offense.
Although the team has things to work on, the players seemed satisfied and optimistic about their performance.
Even when EC’s team was losing, 16-1, the players did not go down without a fight and scored three goals after that.
“We are still a growing team,” sophomore Richard Beck said, “I just hope we keep it more competitive (in the upcoming games of the season).”
With this game being EC’s third straight loss, Jason Gottschalk, freshman field player, said they did the best they could against a tough team to beat.
“One of the prospects to beat is Trade Tech,” Beck said, “But EC will still try its’ best against other competitors.”
