Bullying has been happening around the United States for centuries now and must be stopped.
There are many different types of bullying. The most common it seems, being cyber-bullying, which is basically teasing people over the Internet instead of bullying someone physically.
I recently read an article about a college student from Rutgers University who was being cyber-bullied by his roommate about his sexuality.
The roommate actually set up a webcam to record the young man in his dorm room, and posted the explicit video all over the Internet.
The young man ended up committing suicide because of it.
Some people just don’t know how horrible bullying is, and how hurtful and painful it can be to someone and their family.
Bullies tend to tease people to be funny or to get a laugh from those around them. Those who join in by laughing and egging the bully on are just as much to blame.
There’s also the type of bully who teases to feel better about themselves.
I’ll never understand how one can feel good about themselves by teasing someone else about their weight, height, race, sexuality or anything else, for that matter. According to Howtostopbullying.com, half of all bullying incidents go unreported.
If someone is being bullied, they have to report it.
The truth is the bully will stop, and the person being bullied will have all the support and love they’ll need with friends and family around them, regardless of what any bully might say.
Everyone must come together to stop every type of bullying in anyway they can.
Now, in a time filled with such diversity, where social acceptance is crucial for some, bullying can truly cause irreparable damage.
If you ever see someone being bullied, regardless of how young or old they may be, boy or girl, black or white, be the bigger person and stop it.
You never know if you’re actually saving that persons life.
