Classes aid in fight to conserve

Green, clean, environmental technology classes at EC aid in the fight to conserve the natural environment.

These courses not only provide a service to society as a whole, but also create opportunities for individuals seeking a career in a growing field.

EC has had an environmental technology program for three years and currently offers 11 courses in environmental technology.

The environmental technology program should continue to expand because it is a new field with a lot to be discovered.

Attention needs to be turned towards non-military concerns such as global warming and the depletion of natural resources that threaten the country. One way to do this is by educating people to become specialists on the environment.

Environmental technology classes create a constructive, industrial/business link to the environment by giving back to the environment; when normally the environment’s biggest enemy is industry.

Stephanie Rodriguez, dean of the Industry and Technology Division, said that there won’t be any drawbacks to the new classes and the funding of this program is an investment that EC is making. But how can there be absolutely no drawbacks?

The budget cuts are impossible to ignore and proper funding is necessary for the environmental technology program to be a success.

For some, it is hard to imagine that all the money being put into the environmental technologies program will be worth it, but Rodriguez is probably thinking of the future when she said that this program is an investment.

The money that EC is putting into the environmental technology program is an investment because green technology will be profitable and useful in the future.Green concepts like solar energy and hybrid cars are developing and there is still much more to be explored.

It is important for people to know what “going green” means and why it is important to take action now. Planet Green online reports that every second 1.5 acres of rain forest are lost to land development and deforestation.

Many students are interested in environmental technology classes because they want to stay informed about green technologies, but believe it shouldn’t be a required class.

EC environmental technology classes have long-term benefits that effect the economy such as creating jobs and stimulating the economy, and that is why environmental technology is an important program for EC.
