New parking times for Lot J and K will affect night class students
Parking lots J and K are no longer available for students to park at before 6:30 p.m., according to an email from the Vice President of Administrative Services.
Due to faculty teaching the night classes being unable to find parking, the new times are being enforced immediately, Jo Ann Higdon said in an email to The Union.
Normally, parking lots J and K are available only for staff and anyone who buys a parking permit for those lots, but after 6 p.m. students are able to park there as well.
Now, with the changes, students are not allowed to park in those two lots until after 6:30 p.m. Even if their class is at 6:30 p.m., the students will have to wait until then to park, or risk getting a ticket from El Camino police.
There are a few things to note and that are focused on with the changes:
- Students who park there before those times, will be ticketed.
- Staff will be able to find parking before their classes at 6 p.m. or after.
- There are a majority of classes in the fall 2016 class schedule, which can be found at the school’s website, that begin after 6:30 p.m.
- Many “night classes” will begin by 6 p.m. or earlier for the late-afternoon classes.
- Students must be late to their night class, or be in 7 p.m. classes, in order to park in lots J and K and not be ticketed by El Camino police.
