Campus-wide internet speeds experienced slow connections this morning and might continue to be delayed for the time being, Assistant Director of Information Technology Services said.
“We do see a little bit of an issue on one of our network devices. We’re going to work on it through lunch and are working with our vendor,” William Warren, assistant director of Information Technology Services said.
The problem began around 10 a.m. when the internet download speed was slower than the peak speed of 80 Mbps, Warren said. A surge of new visitors may have played a factor in the problem.
“There was a lot of traffic going on today. There was a lot of people hitting our websites that never hit our websites before,” he added.
Warren also added that the Internet browser might also play a factor in connection speeds.
“Everything we’ve got is Microsoft so that’s guaranteed to work (for Windows operating systems), Warren said. “Safari we don’t even recommend using (on Macs). We tell people to use Google Chrome.”
There was no definite estimate on when internet speeds will be back to normal.
