Graduating college is an event in life that students who wish to further their education hope to experience with pictures of them and their loved ones, photos in their graduation gown and the honor itself.
“Everything has changed due to the 90 percent chance of rain, as of 11:30 a.m. today,” Michelle Arthur, acting director of student development, said yesterday.
But due to the forecast, Arthur said there were changes made to this plan, and it is the first time a big change has happened.
The “Blue Carpet Event,” or reception for graduates, will no longer be on the Library Lawn, but will be in the Alondra Room and East Dining Hall above the Bookstore, Arthur said.
Graduates will line up at the North Gym after the reception to walk to the softball field, Arthur added.
Due to the rain, the overflow of traffic for the spectators will be moved to the Marsee Auditorium, Arthur said. There will be a live-video of the ceremony streamed on a big screen for those who don’t want to get wet.
“Usually there are about a third of the eligible graduates who show up for the event,” Arthur said. “But with the rain, people might shy away. I think it will strengthen their resolve to graduate.”
There will be ASL interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing spectators and graduates. The reception will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Further information on the event can be found on the EC website.
