For the past 28 years, an annual golf classic is organized in order to raise money for the athletic programs, according to the EC website
The tournament is played by people willing to donate and play for things such as facility improvements, supplies, travel etc. This year the goal was $25,000, according to the EC website.
The Featherstone group was full of confidence on the course.
“I think we’re killing it,” Collin Featherstone, nephew of head football coach John Featherstone, said. “John Featherstone is the MVP of the whole tournament.”
Jim Featherstone, Collin’s father and coach Featherstone’s brother, jokingly talked about what the coach has planned.
“John already has his winning speech ready,” Jim Featherstone said. “It’s going to be a halftime speech.”
The day progressed smoothly as the team’s started on different holes and stationed on the tenth hole was a photo op for the teams.
The photographer would line up the players with their drivers and take a group photo before they teed off on the ten.
John Featherstone had some insight as to why their team was going to win.
“My nephew (Collin) has a chance to be big time,” he said. “He has sponsors flying him out to play places. Not to mention his father (Jim) used to play for mini-tour.”
When his own game was brought up, he had less compliments for himself, although a very big smile.
“As for me, I’m a very average player, I just try to help them on each hole out as they go,” he said.
Although, the group didn’t agree too much with that statement, they laughed it off and took off for the next hole.
“We enjoy coming every year,” he said. “It’s been what 15, 20 years? You’d have to check that for me. But it’s really good to be out here instead of constantly yelling at the players.”
After all the groups finished, there was a banquet for the players and winners and prizes were awarded.
