A 36-year-old man was taken into custody after striking his 62-year-old mother with his elbow at the Auto Shop around 5:30 p.m. yesterday, EC Police Chief Michael Trevis said in an email.

“Officers took him into custody without incident and charged him with assault and battery and we are working with the DA to see about filing elder abuse charges,” Trevis said.

Trevis said the two non-students arrived at the Auto Shop hoping to get their car fixed. They got into an argument over the repair and the man struck the woman.

Before taking him into custody, officers found the man to be uncooperative, Trevis added.
