Inter-Club Council's Spring Games bring fun to library lawn

With the sun peeking through the clouds and the weather agreeable, the “Spring Games,” a yearly event sponsored by the Inter-Club Council (ICC), took place last Friday, bringing together members from the numerous clubs EC has.

Honors Transfers Club member Daniella DeLucia smiled while watching her teammates setting up cups for the beer pong event.

“We get together for the bonding, and we have lots of fun”, DeLucia said.

The first event was the “Blob” race, named for the mass of six participants tied together at the feet while moving together, defying gravity to win. The ASO club, who quickly separated themselves from the rest of the pack, won the race. Other teams weren’t so lucky.

“It’s my first game. It’s fun, but we came in last place because our ties broke at the ankle”, Frank Hernandez, 19, film major, said.

There were representatives from many clubs, including the Circle K club, Alpha Gamma Sigma club, and the Japanese Culture Club.

“The goal is to win and have fun,” Damien McDowell, vice president of ICC, said.

It was new AGS member Alexis Higginbotham’s first event.

“This was a great turnout. I didn’t realize it was going to be so competitive. It was really fun,” said Higginbotham.

The group commented on how nice the weather was for the activities that had been planned.

There was a slight complication with the beer pong event, as a light wind moving in the opposing direction hindered the flight of the balls.

Roman Serna, president of Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), was present, along with members of the recently reenacted campus club.

“It’s good to be acknowledged on the EC campus again, we’d only been inactive for a short time. We hope to be realized as a vital part of the campus population, in representing the technical aspect of what’s available on campus,” said Serna.

Ashley Arikawa, Japanese Culture Club president, was glad so many different clubs turned out for the festivities.

“It really is great to see so much participation, and to see that everyone is so involved,” said Arikawa.

A container of water balloons set off to the side was prepared for the last event of the day.  The event began with a slow succession of the balloons making their way across the lawn, carried by the participants. Afterwards some members’ shirts and other clothing evidenced that they had later become victims of a water balloon fight.

As the Spring Games wound down, the club members mustered their last energy to clean the lawn of the debris left over from the many events.

“They had a great time today, and they deserved the time to have some fun,” Rebecca Cobb, director of student development, said.
