There are many centers at EC that students could benefit from such as The Writing Center, which is located on the south side of the Humanities Building.

The center is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and reopens at 1:30 p.m. and stays open until 8:10 p.m.

On Friday, it is open from 7 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. and reopens from 1:30 to 4:10 p.m.

“It is a service provided to all current enrolled El Camino students,” Kim Runkle, tutor and English lecturer, said.

The Writing Center has conferences for prewriting, grammar, review of college application essays and advice on MLA or APA-style documents.

The Writing Center offers computers that could be used for self-paced grammar and reading software and Internet access for research.

“We have computers here for students to finish their assignments,” Runkle said.

While The Writing Center does offer students help with their writing, students should not expect line-by-line editing, Runkle said.

Many students enjoy going to The Writing Center for help.

“I come to The Writing Center to do my homework,” Dylan Sierra, 20, computer science major, said. “My favorite part about The Writing Center is being alone and doing my homework.”

Jean Patrick, a tutor at the center, said the center services people of all skill levels, from students who just started taking English classes to students who are taking their last required English class.

The Writing Center is open until May 15.
