The El Camino College men’s basketball team opened the season with a narrow 83-79 win over Cypress College last Friday in the North Gym.
Despite a bad free throw shooting performance in the first half, they stepped it up in the second by hitting from the line late in the game to seal the win.
In the game, the Warriors went 20 of 44 from the foul line. Freshman guard Jamal Heckard led the Warriors with 18 points.
EL Camino coach Robert Uphoff said the team overall made a lot of mistakes and if he would give them a grade, they earned a C minus.
“We had turnovers and missed a lot of free throws,” Uphoff said.”We did have some guys who played huge minutes which made a huge impact in the second half. I’m excited because I see a lot of potential in these guys.”
The Warriors are back in action when they host Southwestern College Wednesday at 5 p.m.
