The women’s tennis team has players competing in the 2016 Womens Singles Tennis State Championships hosted by Ojai Tennis Tournament and Ventura College.
In women’s singles action, freshman Voilet Simpson, ranked No. 35, beat Joanna Colin of Saddleback College 6-4, 6-0, in the first round. However, Simpson lost in the second round to Joelle Huelse 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Sophomore Jade Sugars, ranked No. 123, had a first-round bye and defeated Sophia Taber 6-0, 6-2, in the second round to advance to today’s Regionals versus Danielle Garrido of San Diego Mesa College.
In doubles action, the duo of Sugars and freshman Natsuki Hoshiko were victorious in the first round but fell to Shumakova/Gharabegi 7-3, 6-3, in the second round.
