With the presidential search ongoing, other campus issues must be handled at the same time.
The board of trustees and the public got through a drawn out meeting on today, that dealt with issues from alcohol on campus to the status of the of a former employee.
But before things got started, the board recognized the student trustee, Kimi Garcia, who has been on the board for the past two semesters.
“This is my last meeting as the student trustee,” she said, during her short speech.
She was given a little plaque to honor her time on the board and pictures were taken to honor her time as the student trustee.
Afterwards, the meeting went as planned on the agenda and members were given their chance to overlook, comment and voice questions or concerns over certain items.
Something that got the laughter of the crowd was the item, Administrative Procedure 3560. According to that policy, alcohol can be consumed on camps. But only for contracted non-school events, in which outside parties plan a gathering at one of the school buildings, but are not part of a school event.
Another variable of the policy said that events such as fundraisers are also OK for alcohol, as long as there is a license obtained to serve alcohol at that event.
Although President Tom Fallo made it clear that alcohol on campus would not be allowed during the remainder of his time as the head of EC.
One of the major events during the meeting was the continuation of the presidential search. The consulting firm Community College Search Services (CCSS) has finished a calendar timeline and that was approved by the board, representatives of the firm John Romo and James Walker said.
After deliberation on the schedule the finalists of the search will be interviewed by the board on the week of Sep. 28 to Oct. 2.
The next board meeting will be on June 15 in the Board Room.
