Graduation is important to students and faculty, and every year the president speaks during commencement and a student and guest speaker are invited to talk during the ceremony.
The guest speaker is chosen through informal or formal channels, Michelle Arthur, acting director of student development, said.
This year’s guest speaker is Dr. Gregory Rafijah, who is an EC graduate, according to El Camino’s website.
According to the UC Irvine website, Rafijah is an Assistant Clinical Professor with a specialty in the hand, wrist and elbow.
“Dr. Jeanie Nishime was the one who nominated him,” Arthur said.
Rafijah will be speaking during the commencement ceremony as well as President Tom Fallo and a student speaker.
