Police Beat April 17-April 23
April 17, 3:48 p.m. An officer responded to the police lobby for a vehicle release. According to the report, a male student, who had a $15,000 warrant for driving on a suspended license, wanted to speak to the officer regarding his vehicle that had recently been towed for an expired registration. The officer issued a citation for the warrant and after the student provided current proof of registration the vehicle was released.
April 19, 10:30 p.m. According to the report, an officer was conducting a patrol check of the Art and Behavioral Science Building when the officer discovered that someone had sprayed a large section of the third floor with a fire extinguisher. The facilities department was called to clean it the next morning, “The Union” reported on this incident.
April 20, 10:30 p.m. An officer responded to the police lobby regarding a vandalism report. According to the report, a male student said that he and a female student were sitting in his vehicle in Lot H, when a man driving a tan SUV parked directly behind his vehicle and then got out and started yelling at them. The man then walked over and kicked the students passenger door and then got back in his SUV and drove away. According to the report, the female student said the man who kicked the car door was her estranged husband. The male student did not want to press charges.
April 21, 1:52 p.m. An officer responded to the second floor of the Art and Behavioral Science Building for a medical aid call. According to the report, a male student was reaching into his backpack and accidentally silt his arm with an X-acto knife. Paramedics were called and they treated the wound, but told the student he needed to see a doctor to get stitches.
April 21, 5:27 p.m. An officer responded to the Administration Building for a medical aid call. According to the report, a female staff member was reaching to plug something into an electrical outlet, when she fell off her desk and landed on the floor. She was complaining of discomfort to the right side of her body. Paramedics were called and transported her to a local hospital.
April 22, no time reported. An officer responded to Lot H regarding a vandalism report. According to the report, someone damaged numerous fire extinguisher housings on all five levels of the parking lot. None of the fire extinguishers were damaged.
April 23, 9 a.m. Officers observed a suspicious man, who was not a student, walking in Lot L talking to himself. According to the report, the man had a $30,000 warrant issued out of the Long Beach Police Department for public intoxication. Officers issued the man a citation for the warrant and escorted him off campus.
April 23, 10:19 a.m. An officer responded to the second level of Lot H for a traffic collision report. According to the report, a male student said he was driving down from the third level to the second level of the parking lot when he lost control of his car and collided into a cement pillar. The students car sustained major damage but he was not injured.
