Domestic violence seminar to take place on campus Tuesday
Updated Sept. 23, 2:45 p.m.
Domestic violence has rocked the NFL with scandals in the past weeks, but the NFL will not be the subject of Sociology Professor Stacey Allen’s seminar on domestic violence, which will take place Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. in ArtB 317.
Sponsored by the Social Justice Program, the seminar will take place during the Clothesline Project Display, done by the YWCA Greater Los Angeles, on the Library Lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Allen said that it is a coincidence that the subject of her seminar, which will primarily focus on dating violence, will reflect what is dominating headlines across the nation.
“It’s in the news all the time. We are more aware of it because we see these professional football players,” Allen said. “My concern is not the (National Football League). The impact it has on the NFL is not my problem. I don’t care about that. I care about the people that are living in these relationships every day.”
The Clothesline Project Display “is a unique display of T-shirts designed by survivors that encourage women to break the silence on violence against women,” according to the YWCA Greater Los Angeles’ website.
