If you’ve never experienced a migraine, then imagine waking up in the morning with a hangover. Every tiny noise sounds as though it is right inside your ear. The light shining in your room feels like it’s burning into your eyes.
Then as you try to get up, pressure builds up into one side of your head; you feel weak and dizzy.
Then you realize you have plans for today, school, work and projects. There is no time to stay home and nurse this pain.
I have gone through trials of different medications, tried sleeping them away, and staying on a good diet; but nothing keeps tthe migraines away.
A few main triggers to a migraine are; lack of sleep, lack of healthy foods and stress which are all characteristics to being a full-time college student.
Then there’s the stress of deadlines for assignments, exams to take, projects to turn in, notes to take.
These are responsibilities that a student must handle. It seems we are nothing but doomed for that lingering, excruciating pain.
There are medications you can take to prevent a migraine from occurring, Imitrex being one of them.
Unfortunately, the pills don’t stop the symptoms once they have started. I know from experience.
When taking Imitrex, you may start to experience a few of the side effects: hallucinations, unusual restlessness, loss of coordination, fast heartbeat, severe dizziness, high fever, severe nausea, and vomiting.
Functioning with a migraine is impossible; functioning with the side effects to migraine relievers is preposterous.
Migraines are said to be hereditary, but this has yet to be proven. Specific food triggers have been listed for those who suffer from chronic migraines such as myself. For example, a whole banana, any caffeine, nuts, oily and greasy foods, chocolate and more are included.
The one medicine I have found that helps the minor pains with no side effect is Excedrine Extra Strength Migraine.
Treating a migraine depends on your timing. If you catch it, you may be able to escape the monster; but if you don’t, your battle has just begun.
