El Camino has hired Colin Preston as the new Director of Athletics and Kinesiology, Vice President of Human Resources Linda Beam said.

“Former El Camino President Thomas Fallo made the final determination based upon candidates’ experience and ability to contribute to the continued success of the district’s athletic and scholarly efforts,” Beam said.

Preston took over as director of athletics on Jan. 21 and looks to bring his expertise to the El Camino program.

Preston’s resume has him coming from The Academy of Art University in San Fransisco.

“I started a Division II program from scratch and had continued success there, so I thought it was a great opportunity to come here to EC,” Preston said.

As the athletic director for Art U, he brought two NCAA Division II National Championships to the program in track and field (indoor and outdoor).

During Preston’s last two years as athletic director, he said he oversaw eight teams in post-season play including golf and track and field.
