After having their bats silenced during their last few losses, the Warriors’ bats did much more than step up to the plate against L.A. City College in a non-conference game Tuesday.
The Warrior baseball team added another W in the win column, routing L.A. City 14-5.
Following a four-run scare by the L.A. City Cubs in the third inning, the Warriors came up in the top of the fourth inning and were able to rack up six consecutive runs.
“When you score six runs like that, it means that there were more than just one or two key contributors in the line-up,” coach Nate Fernley said. “It was a team effort.”
The Warriors look to follow the win over L.A. City College today against Compton College at 2:30 p.m.
Fernley has chosen freshman Kyle Petter, West Torrance High School graduate, to start against the Tartars.
“Compton (college) is a dangerous team,” Fernley said. “(The Tartars) are very, very athletic and are capable of scoring a lot of runs.”
The Warriors proved that just the threat of their bats played a role in the game, forcing the Cub pitchers to issue ten walks.
Three of those ten were issued to freshman Aaron Deguire, West Torrance High School graduate.
“I think we were a lot more patient at the plate than we had been in the past,” said Fernley.
Leading the hitting frenzy was sophomore Joe Morgan, who went 3-6 and drove in three runs.
“After that third inning, we really buckled down on defense,” coach Fernley said. “I was glad to see that we were able to respond the way we did”.
