ASO brings discussion of changing the last day to drop with a "W" to meeting

Associated Student Organization Vice President Sharda Jones brought discussion of changing the last day to drop with a “W” to the ASO meeting Thursday.

Jones said she went to the Council of Deans meeting and they proposed moving the date to earlier in the semester.

Some ASO members said keeping it at the same date or moving it later would allow students to experience a large portion of the class, even if they’re doing poorly. They said this would most likely allow these students to do better in the same course the next semester.

Other members said students usually know a class isn’t for them in the first few weeks of the semester and would be able to recognize they should drop the course quickly.

After hearing both sides, a majority of the ASO members said they would prefer to keep the date as it is, and Jones said she would share ASO’s discussion and feelings on the matter at the next Council of Deans meeting for their consideration.

The next ASO meeting will be Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. in Room 131 in the Administration Building.
