As Jessica Lopez steps down as President of the Associated Student Organization, students will notice a slight change in their environment next semester as ASO candidate members prepare for the upcoming elections.
With candidates setting new focuses, campaigning, informing and encouraging students to come out and vote, ASO members find themselves working harder this spring semester.
Rebekka Asher who has been with ASO for a year now, former commissioner of activities, and current Senator of National Sciences and Chair of Fundraising has decided to run for president this semester.
“I believe I have good leadership skills. If I were elected as president I want to be there for the students as a comforting factor and push the importance of balancing school and work,” Asher said.
Asher’s experience with ASO has made her qualified and familiar with the position she is running for. Working with ASO has made her become even more passionate about EC and is one of the reasons why she chose to run for president this semester.
“I’m very passionate about this school and the students who attend here,” Asher said.
Alongside with Rebekka is Sharon Asher who has also been with ASO for one year she is currently the Health Sciences and Athletics Senator and is running for Vice President.
Sharon’s previous experience as Finance Commissioner of activities she learned to keep everything organized and regularly attended every meeting which also makes her qualified to run for Vice President. Her love and passion for ASO began with becoming a member of ASO.
“Once you achieve helping your own family (ASO) it is easier helping others,” Sharon said.
Patrick Mondestin-Howard, Senator of Industries and Technology is running for Public Relation Officer this semester.
Mondestin-Howard has been on ASO for a while and is very infatuated with technology and media. He has a background history of promotion which qualifies him for this position.
His goal if elected is to “Keep media feed from ECC to students constant.”
“I want to constantly update students on what is going on around campus,” Mondestin-Howard said.
Still working on their Face book website for media outreach to the students, his goal is to also branch out to twitter where he can keep students updated.
His last goal if elected is to upload and update all meetings so he can keep all students informed about what is going on, on their campus.
Recently joined ASO, Erick J. Hernandez is running for Regional 7 Representatives. He has no prior experience with ASO but is ready to take on his position if elected.
“I’m new to ASO but I want to get more involved on campus, hear the students’ voices and learn new things,” Hernandez said.
