In celebration of Black History Month, EC has sponsored a wide variety of free events throughout the month that are all open to the public.
One of these events is the presentation was “Futa-Toro West African Dance Ensemble, featuring Malik Sow.” Sow has a musical career that has spanned the globe as the found and music director of the Futa-Toro West African Dance Ensemble.
“The variety of events that El Camino is awesome,” Maria Sanchez, 22, nursing major said, “It’s nice to see the different events that have been shown during Black History month.”
Schauerman Library has also been a part of the festivities while they’ve been showcasing an exhibit called “Let Freedom Rain,” which Maria Brown, a history professor, put together. All visitors are welcomed to visit as this event lasts until February 28.
Another event that was put on this month was “A Timeline of Our History,” a play that was put on by the EC group Project Success which was shown in the Student Activities building.
All these events are used to showcase everything that Black History Month is meant to everyone and how much adversity some people overcame to succeed in life. Martin Luther King Jr maybe one of the most recognized people who this month is in celebration of, but there are many others who made an impact and EC has portrayed a lot of them.
So, EC encourages all students, and non-students to come and check out all of the various events that are left this month.
