The Marsee Auditorium will be hosting the El Camino Concert Jazz Band for their new show, “The Republic of Funk,” on Friday, April 29 at 8 p.m., according to the Center for the Arts’ website.
The concert will be directed by EC part-time faculty member Alan Chan, with musical pieces that include funk, fusion, rock, hip-hop, and soul regimes.
“I call it ‘The Republic of Funk’ because we feature composers from three different countries including (Bartczak, Mintzer and Shorter from) the U.S., (Haines from the) U.K., and (Zawinul from) Austria,” Chan said.
“Republic of Funk” came from two tunes: “The Funky Camel” and a band named ‘Adam Bartczak Republic.’ Chan explains how he thought it would be a nice idea to combine these two and create,”The Republic of Funk.”
Tickets for the concert cost $10 for students and $15 for non-students, and can be purchased at the Center for the Arts Website, or by calling (310) 329-5345.
