As part of the Black History Month celebration at El Camino, the Marsee Auditorium will be hosting the Central Avenue Dance Ensemble on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.
The Ensemble will be led by Chester Whitmore and hosted by El Camino dance professor Daniel Berney who is also the master of ceremonies.
Berney said the show itself will be about the history of black dance in America in the 20th Century from the beginning until today, and the Ensemble aims to connect the dances from generation to generation.
“Black dances have really shown how the African-American culture is a prominent part of what we are in America today,” Berney said.
The show will also acknowledge Madonna Grimes, who is an African-American female role model who led the movement of the acknowledgement of the African-American community’s role in what they have done in the city of Los Angeles.
