Playing one player down, the Warriors were able to overcome that and defeat Mt. San Antonio 1-0 thanks to a goal by Rebecca Maier in the 60th minute.
“It felt good to know that I could help my team get the big W,” Maier said.
After Tuesdays loss the Warriors (11-4-1, 6-3) said they one had one thing on their mind: winning.
“We didn’t want to lose anymore, so we definitely wanted to come on with the win,” Itchel Guzman said. “We knew we had to work really hard to get a win,” Vanessa Reid said.
Even with the expulsion of Shannon Hornbeck, the Warriors found a way to grind out a win.
“We just knew that we had to defend a lot harder because the other team was going to try their best to score, and I believe we did a great job of that,” Reid said.
The women went on to win this past Tuesday against Compton College, 2-0
The Warriors’ next stop will be at Cerritos when they play Cerritos College tomorrow at 4 p.m.
“We were able to fight through it and win,” Jaymie Baquero, coach, said. “Things happen and it was unfortunate, but we were determined to win and come back from adversity.”
Coming off back-to-back losses, the Warriors needed to get a win before hitting the road for their upcoming games.
“We were attacking well and in the second half did a great job of defending,” Maier said. “We stepped it up and knew this was a big game for us and performed very well.”
Wanting to have more breathing room, the Warriors will look to make improvements heading into a big week for them.
“We have to capitalize on opportunities to score because we create chances, but don’t finish,” Baquero said. “So we just have to finish games and we’ll be fine.”
As the team looks to playoffs on the upcoming month, the team will look to continue fighting, Baquero said.
“This team is great to see and be a part of,” she said. “This victory is just a great testament to the team because it shows we can get through anything if we just keep fighting.”
