Having only one returning runner from last year, the women’s cross country team finished in the top 10 last Friday.
The Warriors are to compete at L.A. Pierce College for the L.A. Trade Tech Invitational on Saturday.
The Warriors will be trying to improve from their top 10 finish from last week at the upcoming meet at L.A. Pierce College.
“It will be a small event with about only ten schools competing in it,” coach Dean Lofgren said. “We are going to give the best that we can with all these new athletes.”
Last Friday, the Warriors competed at UC San Diego for the Southern California Preview meet. The Warriors finished in the top 10.
The Warriors competed in the 5,000-meter run with freshman Maria Colin finishing the team’s best at 13th place and a time of 21:02. Sophomore Lori Cardenas came in 53rd place with a time of 22:47.
The Warriors were not affected by only having nine members on the team.
“We have new faces in our team, and lost a lot of good athletes this past year,” Lofgren said. “We were happy we finished in the top ten.”
The Warriors finished with 236 combined team points, with the following colleges finishing ahead of EC. Cuyamaca placed eighth, Oxnard seventh, Glendale sixth, Golden West fifth, Cuesta fourth, Cerritos third, Riverside second, and Orange Coast first.
Lofgren knows that this team will definitely progress as the season goes on.
“We are only going to get better this season,” Lofgren said. “We will definitely finish in the top ten in state this year.”
