As the season slowly dwindles down, the men’s water polo team will look to put a disappointing season behind it as they play its last games today and Saturday at the South Coast Tournament in Mt. SAC.

Eight teams will participate in the tournament, where the Warriors are seeded seventh will take on Cerritos College today.

Coach Corey Stanbury knows it will be difficult, since the team has struggled against its SCC opponents.

“We have yet beaten a single team in the conference,” Stanbury said. “If we could win one of those, I’ll be very happy.”

The Warriors are trying to avoid finishing in last place, so in order to accomplish that, they need one win in the tournament.

“We are hoping to win one game so that we won’t finish in last place,” freshman Deric Parsoneault said.

Last Friday the Warriors participated in the Saddeback tournament. The squad came up short in losing its first game of the tournament to Southwestern College, 5-3.

While the Warriors displayed sound defensive instincts, their offense was missing in action.

“We had a poor game in the shooting department,” Stanbury said. “Most of the shots shouldn’t have been taken and we just did a bad job shooting.”

However, in their next two games the Warriors were completely overpowered by Fullerton College, 18-3, and by Rio Hondo College, 13-3.

Stanbury, while disappointed, acknowledged that both those teams were more experienced, stronger and faster.
