The golf team will get some much-needed rest between tough competitions, with its next tournament nine days after its previous.
The team’s next competition will be at the El Dorado Golf Course Wednesday against the same competition it has faced all season.
“The other teams are solid,” coach Terry Titus said. “Long Beach City is just playing some amazing golf.”
Titus said he expects the team to play well because it has already played and practiced at the El Dorado course.
“We are real familiar with this course and I think we should play well,” he said
Even though the team knows how to win on the El Dorado course, it is not certain to happen.
“Every day is different and every course is different,” Titus said.
On Monday, the team competed on the Harding Course in Griffith Park in another South Coast Conference tournament.
“We played the best golf of the season so far,” Titus said.
The tournament follows a competition where the team performed less than admirably.
Distracted by a muddy golf course and the stormy weather that had passed through California two weeks ago, the Warriors found themselvevs being blown away by the competition in its last tournament.
The team combined to have 375 strokes, but it still finished in third place.
“Three hundred and seventy-five could beat almost any team in this state. Unfortunately, Mt. SAC and Long Beach played better than we did,” Titus said.
Wilton Guerra had the Warriors lowest score shooting an even par 72 to lead the team.
Andrew Pulaski was the second best golfer Monday shooting a 74, not far behind was Dusty Stumpp shooting a 75.
Then Jason Campbell and Dan Turner finished out the team’s top five, both shototing 77.
Turner, For much of this season, has been the Warriors’ leader.
Strong practice sessions and solid performances normally leaves the team looking to him to perform under pressure.
The Warriors still sit in third place in the conference behind Long Beach City and Mt. SAC.
“We are just four points out of second place right now,” Titus said.
As each day comes to an end, the team practices in preparation for its next match which could inevitably determine its next season.
Getting good results in all of the following matches, combined with a couple of losses by the first place teams, will definitely benefit EC and increase its chances of making it to post-season.
The team could easily take second place with strong rounds by a majority of the team.
Despite an abysmal meet two weeks ago, with a very strong showing this week, the Warriors remain in contention with their eyes still set on trying to make the playoffs.
“Golf is so unpredictable,” Titus said.
