Food, music and prizes will be offered as over 50 clubs will line up their tents during this spring semester’s Club Rush starting Monday, March 2 until Thursday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Student Services Plaza.

“Students should join clubs because it is really important for students to build a community on campus,” Inter-Club Council Director of Activities Makayla Propst said. “You build friendships and you also have connections to opportunities like internships.”

The Inter-Club Council (ICC) is composed of one representative of each club on campus. The purpose of ICC is to fund and support the campus clubs and to arrange events that involve the clubs in campus and community projects.

“Success and retention rates increase when students are engaged on campus in the community that they built,” Propst said.

Last semester, the ICC offered chips, snacks and a soda if students visited three clubs. This year they are offering Domino’s Pizza, a snack and drink if students visit five clubs.

The Associated Students Organization (ASO), ECC’s student government will be raffling two monthly passes for Coast Fitness during Club Rush, Propst said.

There are a variety of different clubs including the Vegan Club, which promotes a healthy plant-based lifestyle, and the Glamour Gals Club, which provides beauty makeovers and visits to the senior centers.

“Joining a club will expand a student’s horizons in their interests and they grow experience that a student would not in a regular class setting,” Assistant Librarian Jennifer Bailey said.

Jessica Sanchez, child development major, said she is excited to attend Club Rush and plans on joining three clubs this semester.

“The Club Rush being all week gives me time to engage with the clubs and gives me enough time to [choose] which one I would like to join,” Sanchez said. “I get to make new friends and I feel like I get to grow as a person.”

Clubs provide opportunities like trips out of state to learn more about the environment, including the Science Club, which plans on taking 30 people to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Propst said.

Propst added that the environment for this year’s Club Rush will be ‘fun and lively,’ an event that will be hard to miss.
