El Camino football team edge’s Moorpark College, 31-29
Following a late touchdown by Moorpark quarterback Kado Brown late in the fourth quarter, El Camino held a two-point lead with 2:47 left in the game. The Warriors were forced to punt.
Brown led the Moorpark offense down to the Warriors’ 20-yard line with 20 seconds remaining on the clock. On third and 10, Brown was intercepted by Warriors’ freshman defensive back Nathaniel Vaughn to give El Camino the 31-29 win over the Raiders on Saturday.
The Warriors’ freshman quarterback David Sills and the offense got off to a fast start with a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Sills scored on a 46-yard run and threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to tight end Erik Henneman.
“The defense was the anchor,” Henneman said, who finished with five catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. “They sealed the win for us with seconds in the game. It was a good game but too close for comfort.”
El Camino travels to Grossmont College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
