The EC Symphony Orchestra will perform musical selections by American composers Nov. 7 in the Marsee Auditorium.
According to the EC website, the Symphony Orchestra is a college and community orchestra dedicated to the rehearsal and performance of the finest traditional and contemporary orchestral literature.
Dr. Dane Teter, director of instrumental music, said the concert will feature a world premiere performance of a piece written by an EC student: “The Water Phoenix.”
“The student won a national competition with the work,” Dr. Teter said. “The competition had a five-minute limit, but the entire work is about 11 minutes. We will premiere the entire work.”
Other musical selections include William Grant Still’s “Africa.” The first African-American composer to have works performed by internationally renowned symphony orchestras, Dr. Teter added.
In addition, the Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ “Across the Stars,” the love theme from “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones.”
Tickets are available at the EC Center for the Arts ticket office and website. $10 admission and $5 with ASB. The concert begins at 8 p.m. and is open to the public.
