The public defender’s office for the former student accused of threatening a massacre on campus, last fall, changed public defenders after today’s court hearing.
Vanessa Johnson took over for Jonathan Cruz as the new public defender for James Lemus.
Lemus came out in a light blue jumpsuit with a smile on his face as he took a seat next to his new lawyer.
Johnson asked for a new court date to go over the files, due to not being familiar with the case.
Judge Eric C. Taylor granted a new trial date and the parties will meet again on Sept. 10.
